Office & business

HOFA Acoustic Pictures improve speech intelligibility and reduce the noise level at the workplace. And the large pictures are real eye-catchers.

Living and hi-fi

Elegant and yet efficient acoustic solutions are particularly important in living rooms. How about your favorite vacation photo in the living room, for example?

Recording studios

The outstanding reduction of reverberation time achieved by acoustic pictures is also appreciated in recording studios. The pictures help to create a positive atmosphere in the studio.

For the highest acoustic and aesthetic demands

Depending on the variant, HOFA Acoustic Pictures are filled with sustainable PureAkust (acoustic picture without frame) or Basotect® (acoustic picture with frame) in high material thickness. This enables them to achieve significantly higher absorption values than other products in the industry.

These and many other motifs are available in the gallery.

Acoustic effectiveness of HOFA Acoustic Pictures

HOFA Acoustic Pictures are effective from around 500 Hz and, in all versions, absorb sound very effectively across the entire mid-range and high-frequency range – precisely where the frequencies of speech and most musical instruments lie. In typical applications, they achieve the highest sound absorption class, Class A, in accordance with EN ISO 11654.

For the frameless acoustic panel, an optional mounting bracket for wall distance is available, which further enhances the performance at low frequencies.

Frequently Asked Questions about HOFA Acoustic Pictures

What are HOFA Acoustic Pictures and what are they used for?

HOFA Acoustic Pictures are stylish, highly effective sound absorbers with custom printing. They achieve the highest sound absorption class A and reduce reverberation, flutter echoes, and interfering reflections – significantly improving room acoustics and speech intelligibility.

They are used wherever better room acoustics and an attractive look are required: in offices, living and hi-fi rooms, recording studios, podcast and streaming setups, gastronomy, or educational facilities.

An acoustic picture is filled with sound-absorbing material. Therefore, it not only looks stylish, but also has a positive effect on your room acoustics. So if you have problems with speech intelligibility, booming, reverberation, or noise in a room, acoustic pictures are the best choice.

When purchasing acoustic pictures, you should pay particular attention to the following points:

Acoustic properties: How well an acoustic picture works depends primarily on the absorption material and its thickness. With many manufacturers, however, the absorbing layer is significantly thinner than the overall picture. Therefore, make sure to choose an acoustic picture with as thick an absorption layer as possible. Many acoustic pictures are also made of simple insulation materials that were not originally developed for room acoustics. In contrast, HOFA Acoustic Pictures are made from materials specially optimized for acoustic applications, achieving significantly higher absorption values.

Reliable measurement data: Ensure that the acoustic effectiveness is proven by independent measurements – ideally Sound Absorption Class A according to EN ISO 11654, supplemented by absorption diagrams from the reverberation room method according to ISO 354.

Made in Germany: The market is flooded with cheap imports where quality, freedom from harmful substances, and actual acoustic performance are often impossible to verify. HOFA Acoustic Pictures are manufactured entirely in Germany – featuring controlled materials, high processing quality, and short transport routes.

Advice and Service: Make sure the provider offers individual acoustic consulting and personal customer service – this ensures you always have a reliable point of contact and are investing in effective and sustainable solutions.

HOFA Acoustic Pictures are effective from approx. 500 Hz upwards and absorb sound very effectively across the entire mid and high-frequency range – exactly where the frequencies of speech and most musical instruments lie. In typical applications, they achieve the highest sound absorption class A according to EN ISO 11654.

The acoustic picture with a frame is filled with Basotect®, while the frameless acoustic picture is filled with PureAkust – both with a material thickness of 5 cm. The acoustic performance of both materials is comparable.

With the framed acoustic picture, the motif is enclosed by a high-quality aluminum frame. This variant offers the advantage that the cover can be washed or replaced.

With the frameless acoustic picture, on the other hand, the motif also covers the side edges of the picture. Therefore, this version is more cost-effective and lighter.

In principle, any motif can be printed on a HOFA Acoustic Picture, including smartphone photos. Please ensure you send us your image in its original state, i.e., in high resolution. Suitable file formats are TIFF, JPEG, PNG, HEIC, or PDF. You are welcome to crop your image to the final size yourself if a specific section is to be printed; otherwise, we will take care of this for you.

It is important that you hold the rights to your image – either by uploading your own photo or by clarifying its use as an acoustic picture with the author/photographer. You can also use stock libraries such as Adobe Stock, Shutterstock, Unsplash, etc. However, please check the licensing terms in these cases. Alternatively, you can choose from numerous motifs in our gallery.

You don’t need to worry about the print quality or format – our graphic designers check and optimize every motif before printing. If a motif should be unsuitable, we will, of course, contact you.

For those who would still like to know the technical details: A resolution of 300 dpi in the final format (as with other print products) is not necessary due to the fabric cover. For acoustic pictures, a resolution of 70 to 100 dpi is sufficient – at greater viewing distances, the resolution can also be lower. The bleed for the HOFA Acoustic Picture with frame is 1 cm, and for the frameless Acoustic Picture it is 6.5 cm (which includes the visible side edge).

The sound absorption class is a standardized classification according to EN ISO 11654 that indicates how much sound a material absorbs. The scale ranges from Class A (highest absorption) to Class E (low absorption).

Class A means that almost all incident sound is absorbed – making a material in this class one of the most effective sound absorbers available. HOFA Acoustic Pictures achieve this rating in typical applications, ensuring particularly effective reduction of reverberation and unwanted reflections.

Poor speech intelligibility and an overall unpleasant noise level are usually caused by excessively long reverberation times and uncontrolled reflections. This is precisely where HOFA Acoustic Pictures come in: they absorb incoming sound across a broad frequency band, creating an acoustically calm environment. This results in a clearer, more intelligible sound profile – whether during conversations, video conferences, or podcast recordings.

For optimal results, we recommend mounting the acoustic pictures as close to the sound source as possible (e.g., next to the desk, conference table, or microphone position).

HOFA Acoustic Pictures are hung close to the wall using two screws. The matching mounting hardware and installation instructions are included with the delivery.

In smaller living spaces or offices up to 20 m², one or two acoustic pictures can be sufficient to create a pleasant acoustic environment. For larger rooms, we recommend additional or large-format acoustic pictures, or the use of acoustic ceiling sails. Yes, they combine exceptionally well!

For example, you can use acoustic pictures as visual highlights and achieve additional absorption with HOFA Wall Sails and HOFA Ceiling Sails.

For more demanding acoustic requirements, such as in recording studios or hi-fi rooms, acoustic pictures can also be perfectly combined with modules from the HOFA Studio-Line – for example, with Basstraps for low frequencies or Diffusors for a more natural spatial sound.

Acoustic pictures are also an ideal complement when combined with HOFA Acoustic Curtains: while the curtains absorb reflections at glass surfaces and reduce noise, the acoustic pictures handle sound absorption on the walls – creating well-balanced room acoustics all around.

The acoustic picture with frame is filled with Basotect® with a material thickness of 5 cm and features a silver anodized aluminum frame.

For the acoustic picture without frame, the filling consists of PureAkust with a material thickness of 5 cm.

HOFA PureAkust is a highly effective absorber material made to a large extent from recycled PET bottles, offering many additional benefits:

  • Tested for harmful substances and hypoallergenic

  • Free from formaldehyde and glass or stone wool binders

  • Odorless and bacteriostatic

  • Certified according to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 (highest product class)

  • Flame-retardant (fire protection class B1 according to DIN 4102-1 and EN 13501-1)

Both variants (with and without frame) are comparable in their acoustic performance.
