For a lively sound in the room

HOFA Diffusors are used wherever optimum room acoustics are required, such as in recording studios, hi-fi rooms, home theaters or for home recording.

This is how HOFA Diffusors work

A HOFA Diffusor is built according to the QRD principle (Quadratic Residue Diffusor). This means the indentations on the surface are arranged and designed for optimal sound dispersion. Each Diffusor is an effective element for optimizing room acoustics.

For perfect and symmetrical diffusion in your room, you can also combine four diffusors into one large QR diffusor.

Absorption & diffusion

HOFA Diffusors are often used in combination with our absorbers and basstraps. All three elements are essential components of a controlled room sound.

In the HOFA Frame, absorbers and diffusors can be combined in any way – allowing you to achieve impressive variability in room acoustics with just a few adjustments. And mounting on walls and ceilings is remarkably easy.

On the Audio Examples page, you will find representative recordings of instruments and speech in different acoustic setups.

Recording room

In combination with absorbers, the HOFA Diffusor makes for balanced, spatial signals. Diffusors are highly recommended in the recording room for acoustic instruments such as percussion or guitars.

Control room

To achieve both absorption and a lively character, diffusors are used alongside absorbers in control rooms. They also help to avoid flutter echoes on plain surfaces.

Hi-fi

In hi-fi rooms, diffusors should be used as main components, as they ensure a natural and three-dimensional sound.

»I found HOFA, and after sending some mails and important data about my room to them I quickly received a 3D-room-plan of my studio and I was able to start with the buildout directly. The delivery of the modules was really fast! The support service was always available – no matter if via mail or phone. I’m really happy with the result. If I need help with acoustics again, I’ll definetely ask HOFA. «
Gleb Lasarew
Sound studio owner
»After the reconstruction of my studio I asked HOFA to equip my room with several acoustic modules. The result is remarkable, the sound is more balanced and undistorted. The delivery and assembling of the modules was quick and reliable and both the sound and the look of my new “soundcave” in black & cream white inspire me once more everyday. «
MAIBA
DJ, singer, songwriter and producer
»Each step of construction – from selecting the right materials to choosing the best means of execution – was then carried out according to strict acoustically designed specifications. At the same time, the finished studio rooms should also offer maximum acoustic variability – for the different acoustic requirements of different productions. Thus, acoustic construction was finalized in partnership with HOFA-Akustik, as their acoustic systems allow for utmost flexible room acoustics.«

Frequently asked questions

How many diffusors do I need?

For “close use”, just 1 to 4 diffusors can be sufficient and help improve acoustics when recording individual instruments.

How many modules are needed in your room depends on factors such as room size, furnishings, and intended use – if you have any questions about the number or placement, just contact us or book a room acoustics planning.

Mounting on the wall and ceiling is easy with the HOFA clip-on frame. Wall mounting is also possible without a clip-on frame thanks to the integrated suspension.

For sound reasons, the HOFA diffusers are made of untreated birch wood. This creates a warm and lively surround sound. For our coloured diffusers, we therefore use a stain that preserves the surface structure of the wood.

The coloured covers are made of a very thin, sound-permeable fabric that does not affect the acoustic effect of the diffusers.

With the fabric covers, you can match the HOFA diffusers to our absorbers and bass straps in terms of colour – or combine colours as you wish. The thin fabric of the cover has no effect on the acoustic properties of the diffuser.

Simply cover your HOFA diffuser with the fabric cover and tie the ribbon on the back. Thanks to a stretch component in the fabric, it lies crease-free. The cover is washable and can be ironed.
