Highly effective against a boomy low end
HOFA Basstraps are used when booming low frequencies and room modes need to be effectively reduced. Especially in the bass range, the natural fiber filling ensures optimal absorption values.
For the sake of the environment
The filling of the HOFA Basstrap consists of a mix of various renewable raw materials, making the filling even climate-positive.
HOFA Basstraps are produced in local workshops for people with disabilities, providing important social employment opportunities.
HOFA Basstraps are perfect for:
- control & recording rooms
- home theater & hi-fi
- event spaces & gastronomy
- home office, living room, music room
- office & commercial
Use them wherever you need to absorb low frequencies and improve the sound of the room.
At its best in corners
Basstraps are most effective to control low frequencies when placed in the corners of the room.
Easy to stack
Basstraps are robust and can be easily stacked – or used as monitor stands.
Invincible as a set
The more basstraps you place on top of and next to each other in the corners, the better their effect.
Frequently Asked Questions about the HOFA Basstrap
What are HOFA Basstraps and what are they used for?
HOFA Basstraps are bass traps for improving room acoustics. They reduce the decay time in the bass range. Furthermore, they counteract disruptive booming, room modes, and overemphasized low frequencies. In this way, HOFA Basstraps ensure a more balanced sound in studios, living spaces, home cinemas, offices, and event spaces.
In what frequency range are HOFA Basstraps effective?
The HOFA Basstrap achieves its strongest absorption effect below 200 Hz. The effect below 80 Hz can be increased if multiple basstraps are placed next to or on top of each other in the corners of the room.
Why are low frequencies problematic in a room?
Low frequencies are particularly problematic in a room because long bass waves are reflected by the walls, floor, and ceiling and overlap. This creates room modes: certain bass frequencies are strongly amplified in some places, while they are attenuated or almost cancelled out in others.
This results in the bass sounding boomy, thin, or imprecise, depending on the listening position. Additionally, low frequencies often ring out longer, making the room sound muddy. HOFA Basstraps help to reduce the decay time in the bass range and mitigate booming – which has a positive effect on the room sound as well as on the recording, evaluation, and processing of audio material.
Where should I place HOFA Basstraps in the room?
Generally, HOFA Basstraps can be placed anywhere in the room. However, they are most effective in the corners of the room. Low frequencies accumulate particularly heavily there, which is why bass traps can be used effectively in corners against booming and room modes.
Basstraps can be positioned on top of and next to each other to further improve their effectiveness.
Furthermore, HOFA Basstraps can be used as monitor stands, as they can support up to 30 kg.
How many basstraps do I need for my room?
The required number depends on the room size, usage, and acoustic problems. In smaller rooms, just two to four basstraps in the room corners can already have a positive effect on the room acoustics. As a general rule, however: the more basstraps are stacked and placed next to each other in the corners, the stronger the effect in the bass range.
We would be happy to calculate the optimal amount of HOFA Basstraps for your room as part of the HOFA room acoustics planning.
Can I combine HOFA Basstraps with other acoustic modules?
Yes, HOFA Basstraps can be easily used together with other acoustic modules, such as absorbers or diffusers. Since they are effective in the bass range and absorb high frequencies less strongly, they can be specifically combined with other room acoustic measures.
What material is the filling of the HOFA Basstrap made of?
The filling of the HOFA Basstrap consists of a mixture of various renewable natural fibers, whose specific airflow resistance is optimally designed for the absorption of low frequencies.
Where are the HOFA Basstraps manufactured?
The HOFA Basstraps are manufactured in Germany and in close cooperation with “Lebenshilfe” workshops for people with disabilities. By using HOFA Basstraps, important social institutions are thus also supported.
Acoustic effectiveness of HOFA Basstraps
HOFA Basstraps achieve the highest absorption rate below 200 Hz. The effect below 80 Hz can be increased even more if you arrange several basstraps next to each other.
Lower absorption of the frequencies above 1 kHz maintains a natural room sound and allows for targeted combination with other HOFA acoustic products.
The measurements of the equivalent absorption area were carried out in a reverberation chamber according to DIN EN ISO 354:2003.
